Custom window treatments built for Gulf Shores condos

High-rise glass, salt air, west-facing balconies and rental turnover. We specify treatments that survive a beach building and still look designed.

Beach building reality

The light in a Gulf Shores tower is unlike anything inland.

Six floors up there is no shade from neighbouring buildings and no tree canopy. Sun arrives through the glass from mid-afternoon until it sets over the Gulf, and a west balcony can be unusable for two or three hours a day without something over the opening.

Add salt in the air, guests who operate everything, and an association with opinions about the exterior, and the specification narrows very quickly. Getting it right the first time matters more here than almost anywhere.

Before we order anything

What we plan around in a beach building

  • Association rulesExterior shades and some window films need written approval. We help you find out what your building allows first.
  • Impact glazingStorm-rated glass changes depth, weight and mounting. We work to the actual reveal, not the drawing.
  • Balcony geometryRails, columns and soffits decide where an exterior screen can genuinely run.
  • Rental durabilityAn operable treatment in a rental must be simple, robust and obvious to a first-time guest.
  • Heat at the glassOn upper floors solar gain is real. Solar and woven screens do most of that work.
Specifying for a beach condo

What usually goes where

SettingWhat we normally specify
Living and dining, west facingSolar or woven roller shades, motorized where the glass is tall or unreachable
BedroomsRoom-darkening rollers or cellular shades, with drapery for the finish
Balcony and lanaiExterior solar shades on approved tracks, retractable ahead of weather
Hall and stairwell glassFixed or easy-lift screens a guest cannot mis-thread

Storm season

Exterior shades are sun and glare control, not storm protection. Retract them well before a named storm and follow the manufacturer’s wind limits. If your building requires impact protection, that is a different product.

Condo questions

What owners and managers ask us

Does my association have to approve the shades?

Usually, at least for anything visible from outside. Ask for the architectural rules before you order; we can prepare the product details your board will want to see.

Can you hang shades on impact windows?

Yes. Storm-rated glazing is heavier and often deeper than standard glass, so we check the actual mounting depth and choose fixings to suit it.

Will salt air ruin the hardware at the coast?

Salt accelerates corrosion in cheap fittings. We specify finishes and mechanisms that survive a coastal building rather than the least expensive option that fits the bracket.

Can a guest break a motorized shade?

Motorized shades are often easier on guests than cords, because there is nothing to pull. We set the travel limits and label the control.

Can you install between rental bookings?

Yes, and we are used to working to a cleaning window. Tell us your turnover day and we will schedule the installation inside it.
